Your laps
Choose a timer for the task in front of you
An online timer counts down from a duration you choose and can play a sound at zero. Start with the thing you want to stop, check or finish. You can use the tool above immediately; the examples below help when you are unsure how much time to set.
Count down, measure elapsed time, or take a focus break
- Timer
- Use a countdown when you know the time available: a ten-minute tidy-up or a fifteen-minute agenda item. Zero marks the end of that allowance; it does not tell you whether the task is finished.
- Stopwatch
- Use the stopwatch when you need to find out how long something takes. For a rehearsal, record a lap at each section. Laps show cumulative elapsed time, so subtract adjacent readings to compare individual sections.
- Pomodoro
- Use Pomodoro to separate a focus session from a deliberate break. The available phases are 25, 5 and 15 minutes. You start the next phase yourself; the tool does not run an automatic cycle.
How much time should I set?
Choose a small, observable result first. These are adjustable examples, not a rule about how long everyone should study or work.
- 5 minTake a short break
Leave the current task, then use the final minute to decide what you will return to. A break needs a different activity, not just another open tab.
- 10 minMake a start on a small task
Choose one surface to clear or one document to check. At the end, decide whether a second session is useful instead of extending the first one repeatedly.
- 15 minKeep one meeting topic on time
For example, allow 2 minutes to state the decision, 10 to discuss it and 3 to record the owner and next step. Check those boundaries yourself.
- 25 minWork through a study or writing session
Open the materials before starting. Define the output, such as a draft paragraph or a checked set of practice answers, rather than trying to finish an entire subject.
A ten-minute session, from setup to finish
Suppose you want to sort the papers on your desk. Set 10 minutes, label the session “sort desk papers”, and put a place to keep each pile within reach. Start when the materials are ready. This avoids spending most of the session deciding what to do.
Use roughly the first 2 minutes to gather the papers, the next 6 to sort them, and the final 2 to put away what you can and note the remainder. The app runs one countdown; it does not sound at each internal checkpoint. When it ends, record what is left before choosing another session.
- If the task is much larger than expected, reduce the next session’s scope.
- If you finish early, stop the timer; filling every second is not the objective.
- If interrupted, choose whether to pause. A running countdown still includes the interruption.
Check the settings that affect your session
Click the large time display or Custom to enter hours, minutes and seconds. Start begins the countdown, Pause holds the remaining time, and Reset returns to the selected duration. Adding a minute extends the allowance; it is not an extra alarm.
Test the sound before relying on it. For a visible clock across a room, use fullscreen and choose the theme that is readable on that display. A shared link prepares the same duration and mode for another person; agree on a start signal if you want to begin together.

Frequently asked questions
Will the timer work in another tab?
The display calculates remaining time from an end time, so it can catch up after you switch tabs. Reload recovery also needs valid saved state and available browser storage. Background sounds may be delayed. Keep the tab open and device awake when the alarm matters.
Will it ring when my phone is locked?
A browser cannot guarantee an alarm while the device is asleep, locked or the tab is closed. Keep your device awake and test the sound. Use your device’s alarm for critical reminders.
How do I use the Pomodoro timer?
Choose Pomodoro for a 25-minute focus session. Then manually start a 5-minute break, or choose a 15-minute long break. The next session never starts without you.
Is this timer free, and do I need an account?
It is free and needs no account. Your timer and theme are stored in this browser when storage is available. Nothing you type into the session label is sent to a server.
Can I share a timer?
Yes. Share copies a link with your chosen duration and mode. Opening it sets up the same timer; it does not synchronize clocks or share your private session label.
